Travelers planning to visit Taiwan over the next few days should closely monitor the weather, as Typhoon Bavi continues moving toward Taiwan and is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and transportation disruptions.
According to Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA), a Sea Typhoon Warning is expected to be issued on Thursday afternoon (July 9) if the storm continues along its current path. A Land Typhoon Warning is likely to follow early on Friday (July 10).
Typhoon Bavi Remains an Extremely Powerful Storm
As of the latest forecast, Typhoon Bavi was located approximately 1,140 km southeast of Taiwan’s southern tip (Cape Eluanbi) and moving northwest at around 13 km/h.
Although forecasters expect the storm to weaken slightly before approaching Taiwan, it is still forecast to remain a strong typhoon with an exceptionally large circulation.
Current forecast highlights include:
- 🌪️ Maximum sustained winds near the center remain extremely strong.
- 🌊 The storm has a very large wind field, meaning its effects will extend far from the eye.
- 📍 The forecast track currently takes Bavi through waters north of Taiwan rather than making direct landfall.

Meteorologists expect weather conditions to deteriorate rapidly beginning Friday (July 10).
The most significant impacts are forecast between Friday evening and Saturday (July 11), when much of Taiwan could experience:
- Heavy rainfall
- Strong wind gusts
- Rough coastal conditions
- Dangerous waves
Northern Taiwan, central mountain regions, eastern Taiwan, and Yilan are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall during the storm.
Rainfall is expected to gradually ease on Saturday night as the typhoon moves farther away.
Coastal Areas Could Experience Dangerous Conditions
Large waves have already begun affecting Taiwan’s eastern coastline.
Forecasters expect wave heights to increase further over the next two days, with eastern and northern coastal areas potentially seeing waves reaching up to six meters.

- Harbors
- Water activities
until weather conditions improve.
